First Time With Brother

I moved in with my brother, best I can remember, in the summer of 2006. He lived in the humorously-dubbed “Apartment 69” in “The Grove” apartment complex on Tates Creek Road in Lexington, Kentucky. The place had only two bedrooms, so when I first moved in, I had to sleep on the couch in the living room, and as I said before, I was mostly a Night Owl, so I spent a lot of the day asleep, while everyone else was at work.

We only lived there for a couple weeks before we moved a few yards down into Apartment 91, which had three bedrooms and two floors and was really more like a townhouse than an apartment. I often say to my friends that I got to achieve one of my Life’s Dreams by living in this apartment: I got to live in the apartment right next to the laundry room, which apartment 91 was really above the laundry room as opposed to beside it. Nevertheless, I did in fact mark that down as a dream accomplished. Talk about a pathetic Bucket List!

By far my fondest memory of Apartment 91 is the time I spent hanging out with Bill. He was Bro’s other room-mate at the time, and he would get off work and spend a couple hours hanging out with me in my tiny closet of a room. I would be on my computer playing one of my retro games from the 80’s or 90’s (my primary game was Robotron), and he would sit with my Nintendo DS playing Final Fantasy III (the remake of the Japanese version). We would chat and hangout and play games and generally have an awesome time. It really sticks out in my memory.

There were other good times, too, though. Jacqueline, Bill’s girlfriend at the time, arranged a surprise birthday party for the both of us one September evening (our birthdays are only two days apart), and it was neat getting to see a bunch of my friends that I rarely got to see, including Jed and Roma. I guess the party was really primarily for Bill since Jacqueline arranged it, I was more of an afterthought, but it was still a nice gesture. I broke into a huge smile and felt the warm fuzzies spread over me as the lights came on, people shouted “Surprise!” and I was presented with a birthday cake. I haven’t had any memorable birthdays since then, but I really hope my friends will get it together and do something special for my 40th. After all, that’s a pretty significant birthday!

Like I said in a previous entry, my computer at this time really wasn’t up to snuff for playing the most recent releases, so I mostly played a lot of Master of Orion and old emulated games instead of putting the machine to it’s full potential. This is something of a pattern with me, I buy a brand new rig and use it to play ancient games from two decades ago. Right now I have a brand spanking new computer and I’m using it to play Fallout 2 for Chris’sake.

I guess that’s all I’ve got to say about Apartment 91 as I’m struggling to remember anything else. Suffice it to say I started to get really Paranoid about living in Lexington again and started to feel terrified that somebody would bust in on me and commit a home invasion, violating my liberty, property or body in ways best left undescribed. So when Delbert called me with a need to move into a place with a room-mate, I gladly took him up on the offer, and I moved back to [REDACTED] to live in the crappy 709 apartment…
